Key Stage 1

Key Stage 1 refers to year 1 and year 2 of Primary School (i.e. children aged between 5 and 7 years old).

Under the National Curriculum 10 compulsory subjects are taught:

• English
• Maths
• Science
• Design and technology
• Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
• History
• Geography
• Art and design
• Music
• Physical education

At the end of Year 1 (in June) your child will take a phonics screening check,
where they will be asked to read 40 words out loud to a teacher.

At the end of Year 2 (in May) your child will take tests in:

• English reading
• English grammar, punctuation and spelling
• Maths
